The u3a quiz team (called TITANICS) are members of the Rutland Invitation Quiz League (RIQL). We meet every Tuesday evening at 8pm from September to April, alternating between our base at the Boat Inn, Melton Mowbray, and away team venue.

At the moment the Quiz Team is full but we would love to have another team in the RIQL! Each year (normally in July) we ask for interested members to contact us, so either watch out in the newsletter or email the quiz team directly.

May 2026 Report

Our u3a quiz team has just completed a first season in the Rutland Invitation Quiz League (RIQL). We named ourselves the Titanics because our first ever game was against ‘The Boat’ and we lost very badly so considered ourselves well and truly sunk!

However, out of 14 teams in the 2025-2026 Rutland League, we finished 12^th in the table, which is not bad for a first year. (The Boat team, which is run by a fellow u3a member, Judy Smithers, won the league. Well done Judy!) The Titanics did achieve our first season goal – to win the best new team award out of three new teams that started.

The RIQL are on the look out for new teams to enter their league. You need to be committed to playing most Tuesday nights between September and April. If you think you would like to take part, Melton u3a would love to put another team together before the next season but need at least 9 members to make a squad. We did try to set up a second team last year, but we couldn’t get the weekly commitment from enough people. Do you think you could regularly rule the seas?
