Nordic Walking is a total body exercise that is easy on the joints and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. If you can walk, you can Nordic Walk! It really is for everyone. It is performed with specially designed Nordic walking poles. When used correctly, the poles take the weight off the knees and lower body joints – this makes you feel lighter on your feet. The poles engage the arm muscles and boost the intensity of the exercise. This makes the walking action more aerobically challenging and encourages good posture. On any surface, the poles provide more stability for walkers who have balance, knee or leg problems. It is so much more than walking! Do come along & give it a try.
ANNUAL REPORT 2026
The Nordic walking group meets on the first and third Friday of the month and we have just had our first birthday!
We are a friendly group of mixed ability walkers consisting of 19 members who all have their own poles. The group has two sets of poles which can be hired for £2 a time. The poles can be hired up to a maximum of three times, by which time we would expect you to have decided if this group is for you and purchase your own. We have a waiting list of prospective members as we only have the two sets of poles to rent out.
We have walked in some lovely spots including Frisby Lakes, Oakham Canal Path, Woolsthorpe, Hickling Canal Path, Melton Country Park, Sysonby Acres and Hamwell Vineyard. We tend to walk for an hour rather than a specific distance as people walk at different paces. Our numbers on any walk range from 3 to 12 and there is never any pressure to attend.
