Fancy a day out without the driving, parking or planning? Our Outings Group makes it easy to get out and explore, with a varied programme of coach trips departing from Melton Mowbray throughout the year.

From historic cities, beautiful gardens and stately homes to exhibitions, seasonal events, markets and fascinating attractions, there’s always somewhere interesting on the horizon. Simply book your place, hop aboard and enjoy the day in good company.

There’s no need to join the Outings Group. Every trip is open to all members, so you can choose the outings that appeal to you.

2026 ANNUAL REPORT

Unfortunately, the Outings Group has had a hard time of it recently.  Before Covid we were sometimes filling two coaches but now we struggle to fill one.  We keep the cost down to the bare minimum to suit all pockets but regretfully the response is poor considering how many members we have and us listening to members’ suggestions.  Are people going with G&G instead of us as we notice they often mirror our trips but at a higher cost?

Anyway, on a more positive note, we did two separate trips to Saltaire, the Victorian village in West Yorkshire and featuring the Salts Mill built by Sir Titus Salt last year, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. A lovely village of a bygone era, a really amazing place and a good selection of cafes to visit for lunch.

Although we had planned to visit the Stamford Christmas market, the weather had other plans and we arrived to find it had been cancelled, not a stall in sight. Not to be deterred, our members looked round the shops and visited numerous cafes and restaurants, arriving back at the coach, soaked through but in high spirits and smiling.

The Bletchley Park experience proved popular with enough exhibits to look at to fill more than one day. We enjoyed wartime news reels, tried to decipher German codes and were impressed by the beautiful house and gardens. This time the weather was kind.

We had to cancel the Market Harborough trip due to a poor response. This had been mentioned by quite a few people to cater for members who no longer drive or want to use the bus and not too far to go, so disappointing for the members who did put their names down.

Finally, Wentworth Woodhouse near Rotherham. A very grand stately home in acres of grounds. It was a beautiful house but sadly lacking in furniture which we feltwould have given it more atmosphere.  It is undergoing a change of management so hopefully in the future all that will be put right and hopefully the Camellia house will be restored and full of beautiful flowers.
